Oude
Kerk
The Oude Kerk (Old Church) is the oldest building in Amsterdam.
The present Oude Kerk is a direct descendant of a long
line of older churches. Basically the Oude Kerk is a representative
of the style often called Dutch Brick Gothic.
Nieuwe
Kerk
The elevation of the Nieuwe Kerk, comparable to the Gothic
churches of France, literally and figuratively rises above
the Brick Gothic building of the Oude Kerk. Even though
the church was to remain towerless, the location on the
Dam Square gave the building considerable prestige.
Museum
het Rembrandthuis consists of two parts:
-The recently refurbished house of the world famous painter
Rembrandt van Rijn, who lived and worked here from 1639
until 1658.
- The new museum wing, in which you will find the exhibition
rooms for the permanent collection of almost all of Rembrandt's
etchings and for temporary exhibitions.

part of the medieval defences.
